When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Except I’m not in Rome, I’m in Los Angeles. So I guess the closest analogy would be, when in Los Angeles party where the locals do.

On Friday night that party was the LA date of Destructo‘s current “Renegade Tour” at local hotspot Avalon, as evidenced by the throng of people jammed in the backstage portion of the stage (just as packed as the crowd itself). The venue is a vast space, a tiered level theatre with lush upscale furnishings. The real instant standout though was the production level unmatched by any club in Australia, closer related to the LED walls and countless blinders seen on a Stereosonic main stage.

The supports were a somewhat jarring mix of sounds, perhaps showcasing the many genres that Destructo enjoys and programs on his signature HARD Events. Tokyo’s┬átechno enchantress Sita Abellan opens the show, followed by future trap act Vindata (who played a healthy dose of Wave Racer tunes), rounded out by live rap act E-40 who you probably know for THAT song, yknow the one? In the side room though, Nap Girls had taken over and were consistently smashing it (more on this later) but tbh I spent more of the early evening in that room.

Destructo jumped on the stage immediately after E-40s last song; fuck changeovers at a club show. Launching straight into the mix with his fairly recent track “4 Real” and bringing out Ty Dolla $ign himself to rap his part live. During the opening track Wax Motif also joins him onstage behind the decks. Together the pair drop stacks on stacks of bass-house goodness.

Speaking of bass-house goodness, Destructo also released a brand new tune on the same day as his LA show. It’s called “Winning” and it’s about “being too busy fucking winning” featuring vocals from rapper Problem. It sits in a suuuuuper similar space to the aforementioned “4 Real” – so if you liked that one, you’ll no doubt like this too.

Destructo is in Australia for his HARD Australia tour alongside Ghastly, Zeds Dead, REZZ and tonnes more this December.
