I love Fridays. Fridays are the harbinger of the official releases of new music through labels around the globe. Your favourite song right now was probably released on a Friday. Your next favourite song will probably be released on a Friday.
Please don’t fact check that and try and rub my wrongness in my face.
Let’s just agree that Fridays are nice.
This Friday (aka today) brings new music from Sydney producer, Rattraps, in the form of a two-track EP called “Swan Dive” out now on Aussie independent label Never Slept. If you’ve been sleeping on Never Slept for a while and wanna catch up, would highly recommend starting with their Vol. 001 Compilation from a couple years back, which features early tracks from Paces, Pusher, Ganz and Jesse Slayter.
First of the two tracks is the title track “Swan Dive”, a four minute percussive yet ambient future beats jam, with just a touch of lounge-house thrown in. This is exactly the type of track I love to throw on when I need to buckle down and focus on something; a strong steady beat to pump out work quickly and rhythmically, but not too intense that it distracts me from what I’m doing.
The second track “Vanilla Sky” has stronger jersey-club bounce to it, but with softer mellow synths than your usual suspects. It’s a proper late night jam, with just enough energy and hype to keep you tapping your toes, but just enough chill to realise that you’ve gotta be an actual adult human-being again at some point so should probably go to bed in the next hour.. or two… or maybe three…
