There is so so so much to love about this story.
So, if you haven’t cooked your brain too much and have a sorta functioning memory, you miiiight remember this trailer for the dates of the Mad Decent Block Party Tour in 2016. Entitled “Day In The Life Of Diplo“, following our protagonist through a normal day doing whacky shit, dealing with hater-ninjas as portrayed by actor/meme James Van Der Beek.
At the time it was thought to be a one off gag, possibly because Diplo himself is either shit at acting or was too busy being one of the biggest acts in the world with his solo project, his Jack Ü duo with Skrillex and his band Major Lazer.
WE WE’RE SO SO WRONG.
JVDB is reprising the role as Diplo in an upcoming comedy TV series slated for the recently launched SBS Viceland in 2017. The show, called What Would Diplo Do? (WT), will feature a fictional version of the EDM lord in a “Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap” vibe, according to a press release. It also has both Diplo and James onboard as producers, one would assume to ensure it’s ‘lit-ness’.
Whilst James Van Der Beek is probably best known for his role as Dawson on Dawson’s Creek, I’ve never seen that show and it looks a bit shit tbh. What I HAVE seen though is before-it’s-time / maybe-only-funny-to-Aussies comedy television series “Don’t Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23“ where he plays a parody of himself, coasting off his former acting success and dodging existential life crisises on the reg.
Aw man. This can’t come soon enough…
It’s gonna be lit AF, fam… https://t.co/xXlBEeWYKP
