SkullClub is the pairing of drum wunderkid Matt McGuire and producer Johnny Third as a live EDM project. To date we’ve been teased with some live footage snippets and promises of new music on the horizon to back up debut single “It’s Only You”. The band have held true to their promises with 5 track EP release “Monsters”, out now through Sony Music Australia.
Taking influences from early EDM-crossover pioneers such as Skrillex or Pendulum, the band play to their strengths, focusing on solid percussive elements and pop-structured bass production. The collection of tracks also seem to have an international appeal to them, likely due to the input of US vocalists Armanni Reign and Joel Faviere featuring on “Monsters” and “Ride With Me” respectively. Philip Strand of Swedish band NORMANDIE also makes a couple appearances on both “Restart Again” and the previously released “It’s Only You”.
The music seems to have connected with fans too, the EP peaking at #2 on the iTunes Dance Charts topped only by RÜFÜS’s unstoppable sophomoric effort and ahead of releases from international Grimes and Baauer’s game-changing “Aa”.
Still no word on when you’ll be able to catch SkullClub live in Australia, however with a solid charting release under their belt it would be safe to assume live tour dates are right around the corner.
